Week 4: Unit 3 Making continued
Potential of Material
How can we use materials and tools to create solutions?
How far can we push the boundaries of a materials assigned function?
Week 3: Unit 3 Making
Potential of Material
How can we use materials and tools in traditional and unexpected ways?
How far can we push the boundaries of a materials assigned function?
"Bags"If function comes first, then we are free to play with form. In this case, taking a paper lunch bag and redesigning it so that it retains the function of a 'bag' but is reimagined with one's hands and the constraints of only tape.

Paper Workshop #1Inspired by influential architect and artist Josef Albers, we explored the 3D potential of paper paired with Xacto knife techniques. After a workshop, students were asked to design their own work.
|
Paper Workshop #2Inspired by Alexander Calder's Monumental works, and paper cut/fold techniques, we were able to utilize Google Drawings to bring our sculptures to life through use of space and scale

Week 2: Unit 2 Creative Confidence
How can we become more confident in our creative abilities?
Skills and Mindsets of Makers
What is a maker room without the room? It becomes a series of connections through voice, text, and images. It’s clicking a link to get to the other side of the room and finding your team to share and collaborate.
|
Divergent ThinkingInfluenced by the researcher and designer Ian Gonsher, we studied examples of divergent/convergent thinking and gained insight about how to approach problems. By rethinking 'fixed' function we reassigned functionality to every day objects.
|
Willful Suspension of DisbeliefSkills and Mindsets are what we approach our work with. Divergent Thinking has numerous ways of being-one of which may be the key to unlocking the unencumbered and playfulness of our youth: Willful Suspension of Disbelief. What does it mean to you?

Quarter 1
Week 1: Unit 1 Perception
Establishing routines, practices and beliefs about Making as a group. // How can we build community through observation and sharing of stories ? // What do we believe about certain ideas based on our own unique histories?
InterconnectednessThe maker, the creator is responsible and often naturally inclined to be an Artist, Scientist, Engineer, and Designer. This grounds our work and will guide our reflection process. This idea is influenced by the work of architect and MIT professor Nerri Oxman

Storytelling Using our hands as our only (and most important tools) we 'tell stories' by creating something that represents ourselves and at the same time establish each of us as Makers and Storytellers.
|
PerceptionHow we perceive the world guides us in how we interpret Art. Design, Engineering, and Design. We create photo essays that allow us to showcase how we see our world, and learn how others see as well.
